Functions of Large Intestine:
•    Absorption: The contents of small intestine that pass into the large intestine are in the form of fluid, even though some water has been absorbed by the small intestine. In large intestine absorption of water continues until the semisolid consistency of faeces is achieved. Mineral salts, vitamins and some drugs are also absorbed.

•    Defaecation: One of the vital activities of colon is propulsion of faeces towards the anal canal. This movement of faeces along the colon is achieved by muscular movements in the colon wall.
