Point # 1
C E R E B R U M
Location of Point: This point is below the tip of both the thumb and big toe.
Cerebrum situated inside the skull is the key part of the brain that rules the body. All the activities of the body are under the coordinated actions of cerebrum.
Functions of Cerebrum:
There are three major activities performed by the cerebrum:
• Mental Activities: This includes memory, intelligence, sense of responsibility, thinking, reasoning, moral sense and learning.
• Sensory Perception: This incorporates perception of pain, temperature, touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell.
• Last but not least, under cerebrum the contraction of voluntary muscles is initiated and managed.
Other activities that of cerebrum which helps in maintenance of body homeostasis level are due to the action of a unit called Hypothalamus present inside the cerebrum. Hypothalamus present in cerebrum is related to the control of hunger and thirst, body temperature, emotional reactions (pleasure, fear, and anger), sexual behavior including mating & child rearing, and biological clock (sleeping & waking cycles and secretion of some hormones).
One should remember that if someone is having high fever or is affected by sun stroke can apply an ice cube on Acu. Point No 1 for immediate relieve.
a) One child of 3 years was ill and at midnight his temperature went up to 103 degree, his parents who were aware of this ‘Ice Cube’ treatment didn’t got panic. Immediately they applied the ice cube on the said point and to their relief the temperature dropped to normal within few minutes. This worked because Point No. 1 also represents the hypothalamus – the unit in the cerebrum responsible for temperature control. So when ice is applied on the point it worked on the hypothalamus to control the temperature.
b) One young girl of 21 years age got affected by the sun stroke. She got the Acupressure treatment and ice cube was applied immediately and as well as the treatment continued afterwards for few days. It was observed that she completely got recovered from the effects of sun stroke with this treatment.
